Fish Cakes

Ingredients:

500 gms Boneless Kingfish ( Surmai)

1 cup milk

3 medium boiled Potatoes

4 cloves crushed garlic

3 fresh red chilies

1 finely chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped parlsey

1/2 tsp red chili powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp oil

1/4 tsp crushed black pepper

Salt to taste

1 egg

1/4 cup cornflour

1/2 seasoned breadcrumbs

Oil for shallow frying

 

Method

In a saucepan put fish pieces and add enough milk, so it can cook fish. I have put a cup of milk. cook for 5 minutes or until fish is cooked.

In a bowl flake the boiled fish, discard the skin and any any bones present,  Grate the boiled potatoes and mix  well.

In a pan add 1 tbsp oil add chopped onion and crushed garlic, let it sweat for a minute add red chili powder, cumin powder and salt and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Add the onion masala to mashed potato and fish mixture, mix well. Add chopped red chilies, juice of lemon and chopped parsley. Mix well , taste and adjust the seasoning if required.

Crack a egg in a bowl and in one plate keep cornflour and another plate breadcrumbs. Divide the fish mix into 8 parts. Take pattis coat with cornflour then dunk in egg then coat it with bread crumbs.

 
Heat the oil in a  frying pan over medium heat. Gently put the fish cakes in the pan and  Cook for 4 minutes each side or until golden brown. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towel. Repeat with the remaining fish mixture, reheating the pan between batches.

Serve hot with good squeeze of lime.
