For me it will be Kali Masoor ki Dal,
Kali Masoor Dal ( Black lentil) its one of my favorite dal. With this dal you don’t need any sabzi, just a bowl full of steamed rice and you are good to go. Taste almost like a curry.
1 cup black masoor Dal (Black Dal)
1 small onion
1 small Tomato
4 garlic cloves
1 inch ginger
1 green chili
1/4 tsp Garam masala powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Coriander powder
1 tsp Red chilli powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 sliced onion
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Wash the black masoor Dal and soak for 20 minutes.
Grind and make fine masala paste of onion , green chili, ginger and garlic.
In pressure cooker put soaked Dal along with onion masala, chopped tomato, oil and add sufficient water.
Add all the dry spices and salt to taste. Close the pressure cooker lid and cook at high flame for one whistle then reduce the flame. Then cook it for another 10-12 minutes or until Dal is cooked well.
Let the pressure cooker cool down on it own and don’t remove it’s pressure.
When pressure cooker is completely cooled open it and check the Dal is done.
In a wok add ghee and jeera when it start to crackle add sliced onion and let it brown. Add this tadka in the cooked Dal and stir.
Garnish with chopped Coriander leaves. And i would highly recommend to add dollop of desi ghee on top.
Transfer in serving bowl and serve hot with roti or rice.
