Sweet Spicy Imli Chutney

Must-have condiments during Ramadan. Have with samosa, pakoda, or drizzle over yummy chaat.


3/4 cup tamarind
1 1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup jaggery
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp cumin seed powder
1 tsp fennel seed
1/2 tsp cumin seed
1/4 cup sugar
Salt to taste
1 tsp black salt
2 tbsp oil

Soak the tamarind in hot water for 30 minutes, mash it to extract the smooth pulp with help of a sieve.

In a pan put oil followed by cumin seeds, fennel seeds and asafoetida and let it crackle. Add tamarind pulp and jaggery and cook for 5 minutes.

Imli Chutney

Add all the spice and sugar let it cook for 10 minutes or until it is nicely thick and glossy. Cool it and pour it in a jar and store in fridge.
